Last year at this time I was just posting my first truth session. The Thurston family was the first family to let me photograph them in their truth. To be honest, I didn’t think this idea would fly. I knew that people liked doing lifestyle sessions, but the idea behind these sessions were so much more. They are to show the truth. The every day. To show the crying children, the food on the ground, the mess in our house. Its to show that life is so much more then living a pinterest styled life. When we scroll through Instagram we all tend to compare lives. This is what I wanted to get away from. The “perfect” life that we can put out on social media. These photos are meant to show the beauty in the truth of our everyday.
We were recently in Wisconsin visiting Kellens family, and I got to do a truth session with his cousin. This one is especially special to me because I love this family A LOT. Rachel is Kellens cousin, and has been a good friend to me since Kellen and I started dating. They just bought this house, with lots of land so they can have a garden and little farm. Rachel, she’s maybe the best cook in Wisconsin. She makes everything from scratch for her and her boys, and wow! Its amazing. So catching her in the kitchen, while the boys are around her reading, doing art, playing with dad is perfect. I love that they had me come in and photograph even though their house had nothing on the walls, was 1/2 painted and still wasn’t completely unpacked. They are catching this moment, and thats exactly what I want. Not the “perfect” family but the real family. Its beautiful. Enjoy Rachel and her families truth!
